This feeling never goes away
I have trouble trusting myself
Inadequate, incompetent
Feel like a kid playing pretend
–
Come on confidence, fill me up
This feeling never goes away
Past and present always collide
A storm of doubt brewing inside
–
An island with no shore in sight
Disconnected, trying to fit in
This feeling never goes away
A mighty struggle everyday
–
Where’s the tunnel and that bright light?
Wishing for rainbows and sunshine
But life’s never a fairy tale
This feeling never goes away

Dear Readers,
You just read a Quatern! It is French style of poetry and has the following rules:
- 4 four-lines stanzas (quatrains)
- There is a repeated line (refrain) which is the 1st line of the first stanza, 2nd line of the second stanza, 3rd line of the third stanza and the last line of the fourth stanza.
- There is no fixed rhyme scheme (hurrah!) but most of the poems I saw in this style seem to employ rhyming couplets in some form so I have vaguely done the same.
Hope you all enjoyed it !

Quaterns are a favorite form for me–and you wrote a lovely, heart-honest poem. Well done.
